Pattaya Neon Lights

Pattaya Sin City

Mention Thailand to most people and chances are, the subject of nightlife and red-light districts soon follows.

Let’s face it, Thailand is famous for it around the world, and outside of Bangkok, Pattaya is the most famous of the red-light districts in Thailand. Agogo bars, beer bars and massage parlours are everywhere in Pattaya. Some streets are even nothing but bars and massage shops (ok so there might be a 7-11 in the mix as well).

Pattaya has a reputation. One that is deserved. It is a party town day and night, or it was before the pandemic hit. It doesn’t matter what time of day or night you are up and about, you can always find entertainment, a drink or company.

Walking along the many soi’s or main roads of this vibrant city is a constant sea of noise from the cars and bikes, and the calls of a handsome man or you want a massage that emanates from massage shops and bars. It can be an intoxicating environment, at times exciting and at times intimidating. But there is always an adventure waiting if you want it.

Pattaya is so much more than this though. Scratch the surface and you will find a city full of amazing people, locals and ex-pats alike. There is so much to do in the city and surroundings of Pattaya that doesn’t involve bars and drinking. From the amazing hand-carved wooden Sanctuary of Truth, to the Nong Nuch Tropical Gardens and the beaches and islands within easy reach, Pattaya has something for everyone.

Pattaya is the city I have chosen to be my home at the start of my time in Thailand. In part, this is due to the friends I have made who already live here, but it is also due to the fact that the city of Pattaya offers a lot of conveniences to new ex-pats. Its location to Bangkok, the many ex-pats who already live in Pattaya and its proximity to islands, airports and more make it a great place to settle down and begin a new chapter….

Stay tuned for more as I learn about this city through the eyes of a resident.
